Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 4-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla, then mix in the buttermilk.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Pour batter into pans and bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool, then frost and decorate as desired.
Notes
You can double the recipe for a bigger batch. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Use gel food coloring for vibrant designs without altering the batter texture.
